VFIS® Highway Safety for Emergency Service Personnel Training

Weber Emergency Services offers the VFIS® Highway Safety for Emergency Service Personnel curriculum.

This training consists of four (4) hours of classroom instruction that is designed to:

  • Document the hazards present to emergency responders working on or near a highway.
  • Summarize the actions necessary to improve responder safety at highway incidents.
  • Correlate the strategies of the National Unified Goal for Traffic Incident Management with actions that will improve responder safety on the highway.
  • Recommend appropriate PPE for emergency responders operating at roadway incidents.
  • Develop an action plan for highway incidents that includes a safety plan, proper apparatus placement and the appropriate deployment of temporary traffic control measures.
  • Facilitate the implementation of best practices for roadway incidents within the participant's agency or jurisdiction.


Upon request, and with sufficient advance scheduling, Michigan Department of Community Health EMS continuing education credits are available for this training.
