The Hospital Emergency Command System (HICS IV) is a National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant incident management system that is aimed specifically at healthcare providers.

Pre-hospital agencies, such as law enforcement, EMS, and especially the fire service, have been using Incident Command for many years, and use it on a regular basis. The healthcare environment provides some unique challenges to effectively and efficiently managing an incident or event. HICS was designed to meet some of the hazards inherit to a healthcare setting.
