Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness
Weber Emergency Services offers both initial and annual refresher Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness level training.
We offer a four (4) hour initial training session meeting all of the following requirements as well as a two (2) hour refresher session. We will gladly incorporate any location, agency, or jurisdiction specific training requirements for your staff as well.
OSHA and MIOSHA, under 29 CFR 1910.120 and Part 432 respectively require, ""Employees who participate or are expected to participate in emergency response shall be trained in accordance with the requirements of this rule. Training shall be based on the duties and functions to be performed by each responder of an emergency response organization.""
""First responders at the Awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and who have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release.""
First responders at the awareness level shall have sufficient training or have had sufficient experience to objectively demonstrate competency in all of the following areas:
- Understanding what hazardous substances are and the risks associated with them in an incident
- Understanding the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are present
- The ability to recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency
- The ability to identify the hazardous substances in an emergency, if possible
- Understanding the role of the first responder awareness individual as specified in the employer's emergency response plan, including site security and control, and as specified in the United States department of transportation's emergency response guidebook
- The ability to realize the need for additional resources and to make appropriate notifications to the communication center
Further is the requirement that, ""Those employees who are trained in accordance with the provisions of this rule shall receive annual refresher training of sufficient content and duration to remain competent with respect to their duties and functions or shall demonstrate competency in those areas at least yearly.""
Our staff possesses the requisite skills and knowledge to provide your staff with the training to meet these requirements.
Weber Emergency Services is now registered with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) as an in-service training provider and is able to offer MCOLES Information and Tracking Network (MITN) credit for Michigan certified police officers for this course of instruction.
